Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I start? Do I need information about my renovation project?

Every renovator has to start somewhere. The first part of the process is simply talking to us about your project. The more information you provide (e.g – floor plans, site photos, inspiration images) the easier it will be for our interior designers to get a better sense of your project. We are always happy to discuss your project in our showroom or via email and phone.

Do you do free site visits and quotations?

YES. We do provide free quotations for projects that are a maximum of 15km from our showroom in St Morris 5068.
Please note that we do not provide free quotes for extensions, renovations that include wall construction/removal or significant structural work. Also, quotations that involve more than one area (e.g – bathroom, kitchen, laundry) are also not complimentary.

How much will it cost?

Renovation and extension costs vary tremendously as every project is unique.  The cost is discussed with you early in the process, to ensure you are aware of the costs involved in a complete renovation or extension. Kindly note that cost depends on several factors, such as:

– The scope of work and specifications
– Size of the room(s)
– Layout alterations
– Quality and cost of fixtures, fittings, materials and finishes

We can help you more if we understand the budget we are working with. Our interior designers can quickly tell you what’s possible within your budget early in the process so you are not wasting your precious time discussing certain layouts, styles and materials. If you wish to get an approx. price of your renovation please visit us in the showroom or give us a call.

How long will my bathroom renovation take to be completed?

Generally speaking, bathroom renovations take approximately 3-4 weeks (excluding shower screen & mirror installation).
Renovations that include custom-made products and involve significant structural work or layout changes will add to this time frame.
Note: Every renovation is unique and this time can increase or decrease depending on the scope of work.

Kitchen renovations can vary tremendously depending on the materials and finishes you choose. Please allow the following approximate timeframes:
Melamine Kitchen – 4 weeks (from signed working drawings)
2-Pack Kitchen – 6 weeks (from signed working drawings)

Kitchens with stone benchtops – additional 2 weeks

How long will my extension take to be completed?

For a relatively simple, three metre, single rear extension, construction time should be approx. 3-4 months. For a larger or double height rear extension it may be approx. 5-8 months. This does not take into account the design and planning phases of the project, which will vary depending on whether you need to apply for planning and other permissions. A sensible timeframe for most house extensions (where design work and planning permission is needed), would be around 6-12 months.

Do I need to project manage the renovation?

We will project manage your renovation from start to finish to ensure your project is completed in a smooth manner, within budget and on time.
From concept and plan to build and finish, we provide premium support and guidance to ensure you receive quality finishes and an end product exactly as you envisage; from the structural build from architectural plans right down to professional interior design.

Will the rest of my home collect dust during the renovation?

All doors leading to adjacent rooms must be kept closed to prevent the travel of dust. Please note that although we do take as much precaution as possible to keep renovation areas protected, it is impossible to prevent dust from a demolition site. Dust may escape into the atmosphere and fine dust may settle on other items in the house. Please cover any personal items in other rooms that you are particularly concerned about. All due care will be taken to protect all floor coverings throughout the renovation.

Do your renovations include warranties?

YES. Our renovations and extensions include the use of high quality materials with warranties, required insurances, licensing, and project management to ensure the renovation is performed to the highest standard.

A renovation or extension project involves the following different types of warranties and protections:

Manufacturer’s warranties – is for the products and materials used in the renovation
Statutory warranties
 – is for the quality of workmanship, products and so on. This has been written into law by your state or territory government.

Builders warranty insurance – is for financial protection for when a builder disappears, dies or becomes deregistered. This insurance is mandatory in most Australian states.

Can I purchase my own products for my bathroom renovation?

YES. Clients can choose to source their bathroom ware independently. Bare in mind that we have been in the industry for many years and as a result have become familiar with which suppliers provide high quality and durable products/materials, along with a lengthy warranty period.
If you decide to purchase your own products directly from suppliers please be aware of the quality and conditions.

Can I just get a ball park figure?

YES. The cost of your renovation is discussed with you early in the process and before a written quotation is arranged. This is to make sure you are aware of the costs involved in a complete renovation or extension. This estimate becomes more accurate as we progress to a written quotation.

Do we need to move out when our home extension is being built?

Usually, it’s possible to remain living in your house, especially if your extension work is confined to one area. Before starting work, we will formulate a plan with you on how to keep the elements out and the rest of your house free from dust. It may also take some planning to make sure you have access to all the amenities you need. If your project involves several elements, such as a rear extension and internal renovations, it certainly makes sense for the work to be done in phases so you can use one part of your house while the rest is being constructed.

This may be more economical than the costs associated with renting elsewhere.

Do I need to be home during the renovation?

You do not need to be on site during the renovation.
Creative Home Renovations will require access to the renovation property between 7:30am and 5.00pm every day during the renovation. Please advise our office staff of any situation you would like us to be aware of whilst working on your property. For example: House key positioning, Alarm settings, Pet arrangements, Delivery requirements, Alternative contact person/phone number etc.

Do I need to supply my own products and materials for the renovation?

We want to ensure you are looked after in terms of quality, durability and warranty. We have researched and put together a wide range of products in various styles in our 700sqm showroom which we can supply for you. Do I have to know what I want in terms of design before reaching out to CHR?

Not always, however having an understanding of what you want and need, in terms of the design, will help our interior designers give you a good understanding of what to expect in terms of cost and time for the renovation.
If you need assistance with the design, we encourage you to visit our showroom so you can have a free consultation with one of our interior/outdoor designers. You can also witness our indoor and outdoor displays for ideas and inspiration.
